Oconee has a new plan for the future

Oconee County has a guidebook for its immediate future. After a public hearing, the county council approved a new comprehensive plan. The plan had the support of the planning commission which held listening sessions across the county. Some of those commissioners were present last night to endorse the adoption of the 2020 plan. But it got only a narrow approval from the council—a 3 to 2 vote with McCall and Hart opposed. District Two’s Wayne McCall complained about spending $79 thousand for a company to prepare the plan at a time, he said, when the sheriff’s office could use money to hire more officers.
