Oconee and Pickens enjoy low jobless numbers

The director of South Carolina’s job service is brimming over the numbers for October.  Statewide the unemployment rate fell to 4.2%. Oconee and Pickens counties have some of the lowest jobless percentages in the state; Oconee’s is 3.1% and Pickens, 3.2%.  Here’s what Dan Ellzey, director of the Employment and Workforce, is saying:  “October’s employment situation is a huge stepping stone in the economic recovery process for South Carolina.  Our state’s unemployment rate has dropped to 4.2%, only a few percentage points higher than the historic low unemployment rate of 2.4% in January.  This development indicates a massive shift in South Carolinians going back to work.”  Ellzey pledges that the SC Works centers statewide are prepared and ready to help all remaining unemployed persons fill some of the 81,000 jobs that are currently posted.
