NRC comes calling, but the news is good

Staff members from the Atlanta office of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission took over part of the lobby of Duke’s World of Energy for their annual public presentation of how things are going with the Oconee Nuclear Station. They brought good news from Atlanta. Bottom line for the performance of Oconee nuclear units 1, 2, and 3, as spelled out in a letter to the plant’s vice president, “The NRC concluded that overall performance at your facility preserved public health and safety.” Eddy Crowe, the NRC’s senior resident inspector, told 101.7/WGOG NEWS, “We had 10 inspection findings, what we called performance deficiencies where we didn’t feel they were meeting compliance. Those were all of very low safety significance, nothing that would rise to the level to warrant additional oversight or involvement of the NRC in a monitoring mode.”
