Nowell retires Friday, Acree to fill vacancy

One of the winners in the June Republican primary will get to occupy her office ahead of schedule.  Governor McMaster has issued an executive order appointing Gena Acree as Oconee County Treasurer, effective with Treasurer Greg Nowell’s retirement on Friday.  West Union resident Acree, currently an employee in the county Auditor’s Office, won the GOP nomination June 11 and faces no November ballot opposition.  Nowell has served as county treasurer since 2007.
