November is National Adoption Month

The emphasis for this year’s National Adoption Month is centered on older youngsters in foster care.  And the South Carolina Department of Social Services says there are 154 children in the state’s foster care system who are legally free to be adopted and await a permanent place to call home.  To highlight the significance of the month, Governor McMaster issued a proclamation.  Michael Leach, DSS director, says, “Every child deserves the chance to grow up in a home where they feel safe, loved and protected and many waiting children in our system are ready to benefit from adoption.”  Families interested in adoption can view online profiles of South Carolina’s waiting children at SCDSS Adoptions, the SC Heart Gallery, and AdoptUSKids. A new system has been created that responds to within three days of a first inquiry.
