Nothing like a conspiracy theory at voting time

President Trump’s view is that he envisions a November race between him and the Democrat Bernie Sanders. But, with politics, there’s nothing like a conspiracy theory. And one that has reached 101.7/WGOG NEWS is that Republican Trump welcomes a match with Sanders, for he sees that as his easiest path to winning a second term. It’s a theory that we posed yesterday to Steve Sperry, the chairman of Oconee Democrats. Sperry said he has been informed that a movement for Republican voters to cast ballots for Sanders February 29 is something that originated in Greenville and Spartanburg counties. The Oconee Democrat leader told us he has high regard for Bill Jerome, chairman of Oconee Republicans, and doesn’t believe Jerome or his fellow party members plan to create mischief by voting for Sanders. Sperry also said there could be a backfire effect for Republicans who want a Sanders-Trump contest because four years ago many Democrats thought Trump would be an easy Republican nominee for Hillary Clinton to dispose of. “Watch what you wish for,” Sperry says.
