No spring softball or baseball

Walhalla has joined other local and area municipalities who are cancelling baseball and softball seasons.  Here is the city’s announcement:

“The City of Walhalla has reached a difficult decision and has opted to
cancel its spring baseball and softball season, rather than force an abbreviated season. The intent of
this cancellation remains the same as other city-wide actions; to minimize the risk of transmission and
for the general well-being of the public and city employees.
The decision was made to cancel after consulting with the Governor’s Office, CDC, SC DHEC, Dixie Youth,
and SCRPA guidelines. Guidelines require strict visitor and player accountability (tracking), intense
sanitizing requirements, equipment sanitizing procedures as well as concentrated dugout management.
The City of Walhalla, unfortunately, does not have the resources required to safely adhere to these
guidelines for safe sporting.
While this decision was extremely difficult, we feel like it is the best given the current situation. Our
ultimate goal is to ensure a fun and safe recreational environment.
We will miss the interaction this spring, however we look forward to seeing you again on the field this
fall.
This is a very dynamic situation and may require adjustments as new information is received and unfold.”
