No effect by government shutdown on school food service

Oconee public schools rely on the federal government for food commodities, but the district food service director says the shutdown has had no effect and none is anticipated. “We do not see any impact on the students at all,” says Scott Hood, food service director. The choice of what kinds of food commodities are used is a decision made a year in advance, he says. And, this point, the county schools’ food service personnel have seen no slowdown on canned food items thru the federal government. Should there be a delivery slowdown in canned good, the food service director says, the district has enough resources available to both its breakfast and lunch programs to cover the rest of the school year.
