No agreement to lower late utility charge

Walhalla leaders could not agree on how much to lower a water re-connect fee. The city council mired itself in debate and attempts at vote to settle the controversy. In the end, a vote to lower the fee from $65 to $35 dollars tied at three yes votes and three no votes. Councilman Robbie Burrell was absent. Most disappointed was David Underwood. The councilman who chairs the utilities committee spent the day in front of City Hall collecting signatures from customers who favored a $25 dollar charge. Underwood’s motion to set the fee at $25 dollars failed to attract a second, so did Josh Robert’s motion for a $45 charge.
