NHL commish says will lock out players Sunday if deal not reached

With both sides remaining far apart, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said Thursday (September 13th) that the league will lock out the players on Sunday when the current labor deal expires if a new deal isn’t reached. If there is a lockout, it will be the NHL’s fourth labor stoppage since 1992. The last one caused the cancellation of the entire 2004-05 season. NHL training camps are set to open later this month, and the season is scheduled to begin on October 11th.
