Next month’s primary is open voting across South Carolina

South Carolina Democrats are staging a vote at the end of next month to gauge how much interest there is in a large field of hopefuls for their party’s nomination this year to run for President. The Democrats Presidential Preference Primary will take place Saturday, February 29. The names of 14 Democrats will be on the ballot. Because South Carolina doesn’t register voters by party, it’s permissible to vote February 29 and still keep the right to vote in the Republican or Democratic primaries on June 9. You can expect at least some cross voting. As one man told us last week, “I personally plan to vote in the Democratic Presidential Primary as a mischief maker, which is my complete legal right to do.”
