New recognition for wounded Oconee deputy

The South Carolina deputy sheriff for the year 2024 is Lucas Watts of Oconee County.  Corp. Watts was nominated and selected by the members of the South Carolina Sheriffs Association.  The award is to be presented this month when the county sheriffs hold their annual training conference.  Still recovering from having been shot while on duty, Watts can’t travel to receive the award in person.  However, his boss, Oconee Sheriff Mike Crenshaw, says the statewide association will be honored to present it to Watts’ brother, Logan, on behalf of the deputy.
