New marina approved for Lake Keowee

A decision by “FERC” – the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission – will allow a property owner’s association to build a new residential marina on the Pickens County side of Lake Keowee. The “FERC” approval March 2 comes with restrictions. The Harborside Property Owner’s Association proposes to construct three floating, cluster docks to accommodate 36 watercraft. Harborside would also place 166 feet of rip rap as shoreline stabilization along the marina shoreline. The order requires Duke Energy, the applicant for the project, to ensure that the property owner’s association marina “must not endanger health, create a nuisance, or otherwise be incompatible” with the overall use of the lands and waters in the Keowee-Toxaway Hydroelectric Project.
