New home-building creates business for the water department

A Walhalla official says new development in the vicinity of Country Junction makes for increased demand for water service.  And Scott Parris, the utilities director, says his department is progressing to lay large enough pipe for increased flow.  Parris told the city council last night that the water department is able to expand its service north of the corporate limits, thanks to a $2.4 million dollar “ARPA” grant.  The monies, made possible by the federal government as a way to help recover from COVID-19, were channeled last year to Walhalla from the Oconee County Council.  Driving the need to service new customers, Parris told the council, is a new section of houses in the Falcon’s Lair subdivision on n. highway 11, as well as the Burnt Tanyard Road.
