New health care company addressed by OMH’s Kome

Three years have passed since the Oconee Medical Center went under the umbrella of GHS–the Greenville Health System, and there’s a change in the works at the corporate level.  Officials of GHS’s Oconee Medical Center addressed questions during a meeting last night at the hospital.  By forming one company, GHS and Palmetto Health of the Midlands will have 28,000 employees.  As far as questions of whether services will be impacted and whether the patients and the medical staffs will see changes, the immediate answer given is, at least for now, nothing changes.  And, to the question of why it’s important to start operating as one company now?  The answer given is “Health care is changing rapidly and South Carolina needs to stay ahead of the curve.  Our organizations face a number of challenges that are impacting the industry nationally.  GHS and Palmetto Health are coming together to achieve new gains that neither could achieve alone….”
