New convenience center seen way to a tidier and cleaner Utica

County councilmen Cain and Davis are promoting the idea of a new place for Utica residents to dispose of their trash.  A new convenience center in the Utica area is seen as a way to cut down considerably the four mile trips that Utica residents now have to make to either the Metromont or Strawberry Farm convenience centers. And Cain, a former Utica resident, says the part of Utica’s solid waste problem is that some who live in the former textile community can’t afford to drive.  Cain said he’s not advocating the county start trash pickup routes in Utica, but both he and Davis favor a closer convenience center.  District Two’s Matthew Durham is also concerned about Utica’s problems, and this morning Durham called for a workshop to bring together various individuals and groups that are trying to make Utica a better place to live.
