National homebuilding leader speaks in Oconee

Chuck Fowke builds homes in Tampa, Florida and David Gully builds them in Oconee County.  But the two homebuilders see eye to eye on today’s climate in the home-building world.  Supply issues, the price of lumber are impacting the craft, along with the nationwide difficulty of finding people willing to work.  It was a joyous occasion last night at a Lake Keowee event center where the members of the Oconee Home Builders Association came together for their annual meeting and social occasion.  Chuck Fowke, a custom home builder, serves as the chairman of the National Association of Home Builders.  He gave last night’s featured talk.  Chairman Fowke has taken the plight to President Biden’s administration, to the White House, and to the Commerce Secretary.  Oconee’s David Gully gave 101.7/WGOG NEWS a two-word answer when asked to describe homebuilding in the county:  “Busy and challenging.”  The busy part alludes to a continuous hunger on the part of out of state people wanting to buy into the Lake Keowee lifestyle including people, he said, from California.
