Sheriff’s Office tackling equity and inclusion issues

The Oconee Sheriff’s Office has reached out to the area’s college presidents to learn how their institutions handle and address issues of equity and cultural diversity.  And this morning Dr. Todd Voss, president of Southern Wesleyan University, will address a meeting of sheriff’s personnel, to be followed in succeeding months by the presidents of Anderson University and Tri-County Technical College.  It’s the hope of Sheriff Crenshaw that his office’s first cultural diversity director, Dan Holland, will be able to schedule the Clemson University president to speak.  Law enforcement officers from throughout the county are invited to take part in the series, also.  The Oconee Sheriff’s Office is joining national law enforcement and other groups for a Faith and Blue weekend next month for the purpose of safer, stronger and more unified communities by better connecting cops and the public in ways that’ll tamp down the conditions that lead to mistrust and violence. A weekend of observances is planned Friday, October 9 through Monday, October 12, and the sheriff’s office would like churches and other houses of worship to pray for law enforcement for the difficult public service the profession provides.  It’s the first ever “National Faith and Blue Weekend” which Crenshaw says was the brainchild of an Atlanta minister.  On the afternoon of Sunday, October 11 law enforcement officers will be situated in the main student parking lot of Seneca High School and, with social distance guidelines, will welcome members of the public who would like to drive-thru and show their support for the work law enforcement does.
