Moulder withdraws from Sewer South negotiations

The Joint Regional Sewer Authority will approach Oconee County for a meeting this week to try to resolve issues over the operation and maintenance of Sewer South facilities. The sewer commissioners are hopeful they can meet with two county council members as early as Thursday or Friday, but Seneca’s Scott Moulder won’t be at the meeting table. Although Moulder said one member of county council, his former employer, requested that he participate, the new Seneca city administrator told fellow members of the sewer board, “I will bow out”—meaning negotiations between the authority and the county will proceed without his direct participation. Sewer commissioners last night were advised by their attorney, Larry Brandt, to go into the meeting with an open mind and with the hope that simply talking may eliminate or narrow the differences the two sides have as to the costs of operating and maintaining facilities for which, as yet, there are no customers. It’s has been the long-range expectation that once piped sewer is in place in the Fair Play-I-85 area, economic development will follow.
