Month later, still snags in property buy

Oconee School District identified property last winter as its first choice for a new Seneca middle school. But there are obstacles in the way of a property buy involving multiple owners. That has district officials considering other properties, in the event property on Wells Highway at Garrison Road proves unsuitable to the DOT conditions for entrance ways. Still, according to the district’s top administrators, there’s no reason to believe that the Seneca area won’t get its replacement middle school on time with a projected 2023 date. “We’re not in a spot where he feel like the fact that we haven’t closed on the property yet or finalized a deal on the property yet is going to push back the date that we have set for the Seneca Middle School to open which is in August 2023,” associate superintendent Steve Hanvey told the Walhalla Rotary Club today.
