Merrill Norris

Walhalla, SC– Our beloved father, Merrill Wilburn Norris, more commonly known as Mickey, left this life, peacefully while sleeping in his home, on December 18, 2022, at the age of 94 to be with others he loved and who have departed before him.

 

A native of Ironton, Ohio, Mr. Norris was the son of the late Lee Roy and Alice Wooten Norris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Wanda Irene Greene, his son Robert Merrill Norris and his brothers George and Averill Norris.

 

Mr. Norris is survived by his daughters Yolanda Yvette Norris and Kathy Norris Cochran, his sister Alma Faye Moreland and his nieces and nephews Alice Faye, Christi, Eddie, Esther, Jeremiah and Randy.

 

Mr. Norris boxed with Golden Gloves, was a Korean War veteran and a long-distance truck driver for National, Dean and Mayflower Van lines for which he earned the Mayflower Van Lines Trucker of the Year award in 1984. Mr. Norris was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was of the Baptist faith.

 

His daughters would especially like to recognize and thank the Veterans Administration for their care and support; Bob Crouch, his boss and best friend until the end; Larry Moore, who worked with and supported him for many years; Ronnie Couch for his camaraderie; Kathleen Hall, a dear friend of the family who he loved like a daughter; and Don Smith, a caring friend who he loved like a son.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local Humane Society.
