Memorial Day in Six Mile, South Carolina

Fleet Reserve Branch #15, part of U-S military services on the seas, will lead the traditional Memorial Day event in downtown Six Mile.  The purpose: to honor those who’ve served the country and remember those who sacrificed their lives in the line of service.  The events are planned Monday, May 31 and include a traditional service at 11:45 am outside Six Mile Town Hall with pledge, invocation and remarks to honor Pickens County’s four Medal of Honor recipients, all of whom came from Six Mile.  The close ceremony Memorial Day will be outside the fire station.  There, a monument honoring Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Furman Smith will serve as the centerpiece for the closing ceremony.  Smith was killed in 1944 during the Second World War.
