Melvern Callahan Jr.

Seneca – Melvern Homer Callahan, Jr., 89, husband of Lillian Miller Callahan, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday, November 23, 2020.

 

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 29, 1931, he was the son of the late Melvern H. Callahan, Sr., and Audrey Lehman Anthony. Melvern was devout in his Christain Faith and attended Lifeline Community Church. In addition to his wife Lillian Miller Callahan, of 66 years he is survived by his; half-brother, Ron Callahan (Irene), sons, Melvern H. Callahan III. (Patsy) and John M. Callahan (Shelly); daughters, Patricia M. Shaffer (Scott), Charlotte Bullock, and Tamara Petty (Malcolm); grandchildren, Shawna Wilson (Matt), Tara Hunnicutt (Michael), J.C. Callahan, Kayley Petty, and Kristin Petty, and bonus grandchildren, Ashley Shaffer, and Olivia Forrest; three great-grandchildren, Mason, Saylor and Emersyn and many nieces and nephews. Melvern was preceded to his heavenly home by his son, Phillip E. Callahan, and half-brother, Clifford E. Anthony.

 

Melvern was a United States, Navy Veteran and a master carpenter. Melvern volunteered early in his life with the Boy Scouts of America and the Royal Rangers with the Assembly of God Church. Melvern worked with Fair Play Boys Camp and the Wilderness Way Girls Camp School and was a beloved employee of Yoder’s Building Supply. He was an avid camper and collector of many things.

 

Friends and family may attend a memorial service on Saturday, November 28th, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Lifeline Community Church, 6979 West Oak Highway, Westminster, SC 29693. A private family burial will take place at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, S.C., at a later date with full military honors. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and concerns for the health of family and friends, Melvern’s family ask that all who attend the memorial service please wear face masks.

 

The family is at their respective homes.
