Mayoral candidate pledge to better police private meetings

One of the four candidates for Walhalla mayor says that, at times, his city’s closed-door meetings drift the wrong way and, if he’s elected, he’ll police them so that the press and public don’t miss matters they deserve to know. Councilman Tjay Bagwell, in his campaign for mayor November 5, made a Facebook post in which he said this about executive sessions: “There is a need for an executive session sometimes, when the matter is related to a City employee, or a contract, but we have too many, and those tend to stray into areas that are not personal or contract related. This happens because it is easier to talk in private. But easier doesn’t mean right. That information belongs to you, I should just be there to present it and shepherd it, not hide it because it’s uncomfortable.”
