Mask law is now mandatory in all Oconee government buildings

Anyone working in or visiting an Oconee government building during the next 61 days will be required to wear a face mask unless they are exempt for medical or religious reasons.

Using an emergency provision allowing ordinances to be passed on only one reading the Oconee County Council on Tuesday enacted the emergency ordinance in an effort to help stem the spread of the Covid-19 virus, in accordance with recommendations by state health authorities and the Center for Disease Control.

The ordinance passed on a 5-0 vote.

Violations of the ordinance are a misdemeanor and could result in a citation carrying a minimum fine of $25.
