Martha Emogene Holleman

Martha Emogene Holleman, passed away peacefully at age 89 at the Foothills Presbyterian Retirement Community in Easley, SC on September 28th, 2020. She was the second daughter of Whit and Edna (Brock) Holleman. Martha was born December 10th, 1930 at Anderson Hospital.

After graduating from Seneca High School, she earned her BS degree at Queens College in Charlotte, NC in 1952. She began her life’s occupation of education teaching first grade at Keowee Elementary School where she later became principal. She earned a Masters Degree from Clemson University, then called Clemson Agricultural College. She later taught first grade at Southside/J. N. Kellett Elementary School in Seneca, where she retired from teaching. She was a lifelong member and elder of Seneca Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and directed handbells for many years. Martha loved Clemson University, especially Clemson football, baseball, and basketball. She passionately cheered for the Tigers, attending all games for as long as she was able. She was an active member of the DAR Wizard of Tamassee chapter, as well as a member of the Seneca Literary and Civic club.

She is survived by her younger sister, Hannah Bullard (Dan) in The Woodlands, TX, and the four children of her older sister, Sarah Plyler (Dick): Carl Dixon Plyler of Cary, NC; Whit Holleman Plyler of Liberty, SC; Bundy Brock Plyler of Lancaster, SC; and Sallie Plyler Wigington (Kent) of Seneca, SC. There are 8 great-nieces and nephews, and 5 great-great nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at Mt. View Cemetery in Seneca on Thursday, October 1st at 2 pm.

Masks and social distancing are requested.
