Margaret Harper makes a public plea

Oconee County resident Margaret Harper renewed her plea last night for county government and the general citizenry to make a greater effort at alleviating poverty in the county.  At a recent meeting, Harper lamented the population segment so down on their luck and suggested the need for a second homeless shelter in the county.  Last night she urged the need for a unity of everyone to show love and compassion to their fellow citizenry.  She implored her audience at last night’s council meeting to show love and care for all human beings.  Councilman Durham said he and his colleague, Paul Cain, have discussed the situation and they are determined to get something moving.  Harper last night decried the lack of a stronger Red Cross presence in the county, and Councilman Davis said that there are other Oconee organizations that work at combatting poverty, and he offered to acquaint Harper with examples of what’s being done on a daily basis.
