Marathon station in line for a Walhalla corner

Plans to build a filling station on Walhalla’s west side cleared a hurdle last night during a City Hall meeting. The city’s Board of Zoning Appeals approved a special exception use permit for a Marathon gas station at the corner of W. Main and N. Poplar streets. The vote was unanimous, although there were a few voices of dissent from the audience during the public hearing portion of the meeting. The board acted after seeing and hearing plans presented by a representative of the building contractor company, KM Services. Home and property owners in the vicinity raised concerns about parking, lighting, water runoff, and the potential for property value decreases. But the builder representative said the developers are willing to work with the neighbors to allay the concerns.
