Manufacturing plant water leak subject of lawsuit

An insurance company, on behalf of an Oconee County manufacturing plant, has gone into court with a claim for damages to settle a water leak incident in 2018. The lawsuit, filed yesterday by the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company on behalf of Greenfield Industries, names six defendants including a contractor and companies involved in the business of fire protection services. The suit alleges that an employee at Greenfield’s Davis Creek Road operations arrived at work around 6 o’clock on the morning of April 11, 2018 and discovered the entire first floor of the building was under water, including up to two feet of standing water in some places. The lawsuit alleges the water leaked from a fire suppression system and a two-inch drain valve came apart at the casting. According to the lawsuit, Fireman’s Fund Insurance paid $432 thousand on a claim of damages to the building and Greenfield incurred a $100 thousand deductible. A jury trial is requested in the Oconee Common Pleas Court.
