Manuel Kyle Hunter

Manuel Kyle Hunter, age 68, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Born October 21, 1954 in Clayton, Georgia, Manuel was the son of the late Cleo Wesley Hunter and Hassie Madell Smith Hunter. Manuel grew up in Cashiers, NC, and was the true definition of a mountain man. He loved to fish, hike, hunt, and just interact with nature in general. Feeding his birds and “critters” was one of his favorite things to do! He loved to share his knowledge of the outdoors with anyone who would listen; if you knew him, you know he knew a lot! He always had the best stories and would tell them for hours around a campfire with a cold beer in hand.

Manuel never met a stranger; some of his best friends were people he met at Dollar General “on the mountain, ” Ingles, or the gas station. As someone close to him said recently, “he lived in his own type of box and that’s why people liked him”. He was his own person and would have never changed that for anyone. A true Appalachian who loved with his whole heart! His friends and family meant everything to him and he showed them that in every way he possibly could. His family was his purpose and he made sure we never forgot that! We will miss him more than words could EVER describe!

Survivors include his former wife of 19 years, mother of his children, and dear friend, Linda Creamer of High Point, NC; his children, Jessica Hunter and Chuan Spencer of Greensboro, NC, Anita Newton and Donald of Greensboro, NC, and Dayle Marie Brooks and Chase Dudley of Four Oaks, NC; his grandchildren, Sydney Newton and Jeffrey, Kenzie Abernathy and Jordan, Damon Hooper and Daizy, Skyler Newton and Matthew, and Maddox Newton all of Greensboro, NC, and Brantley Brooks of Four Oaks, NC; great-grandchildren, Henry and Benjamin Moore, and Emmett Abernathy all of Greensboro, NC; and a sister, Marilyn Hixon and Thomas of Sylva, NC.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hunter was predeceased by many aunts and uncles, and numerous dear friends.
