Manhunt in Toccoa, Georgia

Streets in south central Toccoa, Georgia were blocked yesterday for a manhunt in an officer-involved shooting.  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation issued the following announcement: “At the request of the Toccoa Police Department, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Toccoa, Georgia.  Montavious Cantrell Winkfield, age 37, of Toccoa, is wanted in connection to this incident.  No officers were injured in this incident.  The preliminary information indicates on Monday, July 1, 2024, at about 2:10 p.m., Toccoa PD officers stopped a vehicle near Diagonal Street, Toccoa, GA.  Winkfield got out of the vehicle and began shooting at the officers.  An officer fired a gun at him, and he ran away.  Winkfield is still on the run….”  Part of the manhunt involved the forced entry of a motel room where, it was thought, Winkfield might be.  According to Toccoa Radio WNEG, the manhunt remain in progress as late as 9:15 last night.
