Mamie Smith

Salem, SC — Mamie Blanche Smith, 92, wife of the late William Otto Smith, of Salem, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Lila Doyle.

 

A native of Oconee County, SC, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Sam and Josephine Barker Murphree. She was a faithful member of Stamp Creek Baptist Church. Throughout the years she served as pianist, Sunday school teacher, secretary, treasurer, vacation bible school teacher and choir member. She was a kind and beautiful lady that made everyone feel loved and special, she always looked for the best in others and showed interest in their lives. She took care of many of her family members and was eager to do anything that was needed. She was always a servant. She will long be remembered for her beautiful gardens, her famous chocolate pudding and her hospitality. If anyone visited, she would always offer something to eat or drink. Even during her last days, she wanted to cook for and serve others, but she will be most remembered for her Christ-like heart.

 

Mrs. Smith is survived by her son: Roderick “Rod” Smith (Irene) of Salem, SC; brother: Ray Murphree (Tomi) of Salem; grandchildren: Jason Smith (Susan); and great-grandchildren: Rowan and Campbell Smith.

 

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter: Emerson Rose Smith; brothers: Tom and Bill Murphree; and sisters: Esther Murphree and Lucille Lee.

 

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Davenport Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Stamp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM, Saturday, prior to the service, at Davenport Funeral Home.
