Making Oconee County trail connections

If you ventured Saturday into the Greenville County city of Travelers Rest, you’d have every right to wonder what the excitement was all about.  Traffic was bumper to bumper on the main street leading from the highway out of town and parking spots were at a premium.  Vendors were hawking their crafts and the cool day lent itself for biking on Travelers Rest’s section of the Swamp Rabbit Trail.  Parts of Greenville and Pickens counties have connected trails and greenways, and now Oconee County is getting into the act.  The upstate organization Ten at the Top will convene a public workshop next week that will bring county officials and the public together to learn how to connect trails and greenways in Oconee and beyond.  Speakers will include Brandy Amidon, Travelers Rest mayor, and Ty Houck of the Greenville County Recreation District.  The workshop, which will feature a lunch, will take place 11:30 am to 1:30 pm Thursday, October 17 at the Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative building, Sandifer Boulevard.
