Mailed ballots being scanned

Oconee voters are lining up at their regular precincts today to cast ballots to make their voices known in the General Election.  Meantime, the process is underway to process a large number of votes that have previously been received by Oconee Elections by the mail ballot process.  Those are being scanned electronically today.  And Joy Scharich, elections director, says the mailed ballots will be totaled at 7 tonight if the electronic scanning is completed.  Due to the high volume of by-mail ballots, some counties will likely not be finished with the process tonight.  At 7 tonight, the polls are scheduled to close countywide, except for those who were in line by 7.  After the last voter had voted, poll managers complete the process of closing the polling place.  Those poll managers publicly post precinct results at the polling place delivering results to the county election office.  Travel times from polling place vary depending on the distance to county offices.
