Lucas Watts Homecoming

After more than six months, Lucas Watts will return to his Oconee home.  The county deputy, seriously wounded in an officer-involved shooting November 16, comes home tomorrow.  His boss, Sheriff Mike Crenshaw and others are excited.  According to Crenshaw, the tentative plan is for Watts to be discharged from his out of state re-hab facility sometime early tomorrow afternoon and start his journey back home.  It’s anticipated Watts should reach South Carolina between 2 and 3 o’clock tomorrow afternoon.  “If anyone would like to welcome Lucas back home,” Crenshaw says, “we are making plans to assemble at the Highway 11 bridge at I-85 (exit 1) tomorrow afternoon.”  The Oconee Chamber of Commerce is asking businesses to change the wording on their outdoor signs to read:  “Welcome Home Corporal Lucas Watts.” The focus for the family is their loved one’s recovery and, therefore, the family requests privacy to continue to be respected.
