Like Florence, will Michael spare Oconee?

Might Oconee get lucky twice in a row and miss some of the more damaging effects of the remnants of a hurricane? Predictions have the effects of Hurricane Michael passing to the eastside of Oconee County. Nevertheless, city of Walhalla and the Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative are making plans just in case something bad happens. The motor club AAA Carolinas reminds everyone to drive safely in storms or high winds and drive with headlights on using low beams. There could be a short spike in gas prices due to panic buying, but AAA believes the fuel supply in the Carolinas won’t be impacted. Water and wind from hurricanes can be devastating even after landfall is made. It was a year ago that Walhalla and parts of Oconee experienced Tropical Storm Nate which blew out the roof of Walhalla’s Brown building, a downtown building that has since been demolished. Fire Chief Brandon Burton remembers what happened.
