Learning chemistry the fun way

More than 150 children and adults learned chemistry the fun way this morning at the Swain Community Branch Library in the Pickens County town of Liberty. Undergraduate and graduate students from the College of Science’s department of chemistry hosted an outreach event called “Fun with Chemistry.” The library was filled with excitement as kids scrambled from station to station to stir, squeeze our and shake globs of glue. A six-year old Dacusville boy, Amos Graves, set an interviewer straight. When Amos was asked if he was going to be a scientist when he grew up, he said, “I already am a scientist.” And then, with dramatic flair, he added, “I’m going to figure out how to make a time machine.”
