Last day for in-person absentee voting

Going into the final day for in-person absentee voting, a total of 18, 633 Oconeeans had voted.  And that number likely increases today, as the lines outside the county election headquarters have been consistently long.  The last day for mail voting and the drop-in ballot box will be 7 o’clock tomorrow night.  Traditional voting, at regular precincts, is reserved for tomorrow between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm.  Like Americans elsewhere, Oconeeans have been motivated to vote this time by the race for President.  Factoring  also is the race for the U-S Senate and the U-S House of Representatives. Four years ago, Oconeeans overwhelmingly helped the Republicans re-capture the White House by giving political novice Donald Trump a vote 71.8% in his race with Democrat Hillary Clinton.  There are two contested races to be decided for seats on the Oconee School Board of Trustees.  Incumbent Joe Rukat and challenger Meghan Ketterman are the candidates in District Two.  There are three candidates for the District Five seat:  incumbent Buddy Herring and newcomers Sammy Grant and Earnestine Williams.
