Lake Keowee drowning

A 27-year old Greenville man died last evening at the Fall Creek Landing near Salem. Coroner Karl Addis says what happened appears to have been an accidental drowning. By late last night, the coroner’s office was still trying to locate and notify his family. Addis says the man and friends arrived at Fall Creek around 5 pm and swam to the island known as the Rock. Addis gave this further account of what happened about an hour and a half later: “He attempted to swim after a water bottle that had floated away; he then disappeared beneath the water surface. Attempts to rescue him were unsuccessful by a female acquaintance.” The first 9-1-1 call is believed to have gone to Pickens County dispatch. Oconee Emergency Services were called to assist. Around 7:30, the swimmer was located and extricated from the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
