Labor Day weekend boat safety

For many outdoor enthusiasts Labor Day weekend this year could be the last times for boating on South Carolina lakes.  The DNR wants all boaters to be able to enjoy the weekend without worrying about whether their crafts carry the required safety equipment and registration.  The Law Enforcement Division of the South Carolina DNR will conduct courtesy boat inspections at public boat landings across the state.  One of those inspections will take place from 10 am until noon Saturday, September 4 in Oconee County, at the South Cove Boat Ramp near Seneca.  The inspections are completely voluntary and are not required before launching.  You can expect DNR officers to do a quick, but thorough, inspection of your boat.  Those boaters who allow the voluntary inspections who are found to be not in compliance with regulations will not be ticketed.  Instead, they’ll get the chance to correct the problem before boat launch.
