June Byrd Bowen
June Byrd Bowen, 92, of Seneca, South Carolina passed away peacefully at the Cottingham Hospice House on Wednesday, September 20th. Born on June 3rd, 1931, to Rebecca and Oliver Byrd on Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina. June was predeceased by her sister, Sarah Briley, and her brother, Thomas Byrd, both of Mt. Pleasant South Carolina, and by her loving husband Bill Bowen. Bill and June’s 60-year marriage and enduring love was an inspiring example to all who knew them.
June graduated Valedictorian of Moultrie High School in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. She loved going to the beach and was very proud of her “Lowcountry” heritage. In her younger years, June enjoyed traveling, playing tennis, and writing. When she was in her 80’s, she wrote and published Island Girl, of which she was very proud.
June is survived by her three daughters: Becky King (Mike) of Seneca, South Carolina, Beth Curtis (Weston) of Chapin, South Carolina, and Barbara Douglas (Richard) of Seneca, South Carolina. Her greatest joy was her seven precious grandchildren: Ryan King (Elizabeth) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Thomas King (Danielle) of Charleston, South Carolina, Kelly King of Nashville, Tennessee, Brittany Curtis (Cliff) of Prosperity, South Carolina, Adam Curtis (Becca) of Lexington, South Carolina, Rich Douglas (Courtney) of Charleston, South Carolina, and Lindsey Douglas of Clemson, South Carolina. June also has nine precious great-grandchildren whom she adored. Being Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the highlight of her life. June is also survived by her many beloved nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to thank the staff of Belvedere Commons, the 4th-floor nurses of Oconee Memorial Hospital, and the nurses at Cottingham Hospice House for caring for her in such a loving way.
Burial will be at the Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery, 500 Holland Road, Simpsonville, South Carolina 29681. At this time, arrangements are pending.
