Judy Lane Honea Porter

Townville – Judy Lane Honea Porter, 72, passed away peacefully the morning of Saturday, June 4, 2022, with the love of her family surrounding her.

A native of Oconee County, South Carolina, Mrs. Porter was the daughter of the late Lane Lycester Honea and Julia Mae Price Honea.  After meeting the love of her life and best friend, Melvin Donald Porter, they married in 1968.  Melvin returned home from the Vietnam War to welcome their daughter, Lynn in 1969, followed by their son, Brian, in 1972.  Mr. and Mrs. Porter settled in Townville, SC to raise their family.   Mrs. Porter was an active member of Townville Baptist Church for 51 years; she had a beautiful voice and loved being a choir member.

Mrs. Porter retired from Anderson County School District 4 as Lunchroom Manager for Townville Elementary, where each student touched a place in her heart; she loved each one.  Mrs. Porter was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, niece, nana, and friend.  She was loved by many.

 

She will be missed by her husband of 53 years, Melvin; children, Lynn Whitman of Townville and Brian Porter (Angie) of Walhalla; grandchildren, Eli Whitman of Seneca, SC, Christopher Kramer (Dana) of Kingsland, GA, Taylor Whitman (Parker) of Townville, SC, and Owen Porter (Hailey) of Walhalla, SC; great-grandchildren, Bentley Kramer, MacKenzie Smith, Kolemen Whitman, and Chloe Jones; brother, Richard Honea of Townville; sisters, Kaye Meredith (Doug) of Seneca, Sheryl Holbrooks (Robert) of Seneca, and Peggy Garner (Ronnie) of Townville; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, David and Martha Porter of Pickens; uncles, Truman Price of Altus, OK, Joe Price of Seneca; aunt, Wilma Jean Stephens of Seneca; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

 

Mrs. Porter was predeceased by her parents, Lane and Julia; aunt, Alma Morgan; and nephew, Keith Meredith.

 

A Celebration of Judy’s Life will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at Townville Baptist Church, 8816 SC-24, Townville, SC 29689.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with the service to follow at 12:30 pm.

 

A private burial service was held at Townville Baptist Church where Judy was laid to rest.
