Judge’s order settles suit over accidental shooting

An order by Cordell Maddox, 10th Circuit judge, approves a settlement in the civil case of a 17-year old who died after, court documents say, he was the victim of an accidental shooting in March 2020 at a home in Mountain Rest.  The shooting victim was Edward Lee Eastwood V.  Judge Maddox issued an order that allocates the proceeds of an insurance benefit to cover claims of wrongful death and survival action.  The Oconee Sheriff’s Office, which investigated the shooting, issued a statement a day after Eastwood’s death that read:  “The victim was handling a handgun when the handgun discharged.  Based on the investigation, this appears to be an accidental shooting.”
