Judge told bar squabble led to shots fired at nearby store

A former Tennessee woman was sentenced yesterday by an Oconee judge to three years in prison to account for the actions she took last winter on the 123 By-Pass that sent people scattering from the gas pumps at a convenience store. Latoya Denise Emry pleaded guilty to assault and battery first degree. The police charged Emry with firing a gun into a car parked at the Marathon gas pumps. The gunfire sent two people in the car running for safety. Prosecutor Lindsey Simmons told Oconee General Sessions Judge Scott Sprouse that the incident arose from a disagreement Emery had with a former girlfriend in a nearby tavern. Sprouse sentence requires Emry to serve three years, fulfill three years probation, and make $817.46 in restitution. The defendant gets credit for 253 days spent in jail awaiting trial.
