Judge makes pre-trial ruling in Stokes v. Oconee et al

The case of Stokes versus Oconee and others is still alive, but the court won’t allow the plaintiff to sue a current county council member and a former council member as individuals. Judge Lawton McIntosh’s ruling was entered in the Common Pleas Court late last week after an earlier motion hearing. Defense lawyers countered David Stokes’s attorney’s motion by arguing that comments about his client made by Councilman Wayne McCall and now former council member Edda Cammick were not expressed individually but instead in their official capacity during council committee meeting in 2017. Stokes, who lost his job as building and codes director, launched his lawsuit based on complaints that he contends McCall and Cammick made against him during the committee meeting.
