Joseph Marvin Guy

Seneca-Joseph Marvin “Joe” Guy, 91, of Seneca, SC, passed away on July 19, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Joe was born on June 17, 1929 in Oconee County, SC, son of Walter Lee and Sallie Clayton Guy. He was a veteran of the US Army and a retired brick mason.  His well-regarded brickwork is found on many upstate schools, churches, university buildings and homes. He was especially proud of his masonry on the Military Heritage Plaza at Clemson University and his last work at age 74, the Seneca Baptist Church entry sign. He was an avid gardener, voracious reader, dove hunter, and lifelong student of the Bible.  He enjoyed debating politics and religion with anyone who would join in but refused to listen to his children’s football rivalry over Thanksgiving dinner.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Faye Williams Guy. He is also survived by two daughters, Mona Fleming of Pendleton and Jody Gaulin (Gary) of Seneca, and one son, Stan Guy (Cheryl) of Jefferson, GA.  He is survived by his grandchildren, his pride and joy, Jess Fleming (Liz), Paige Lowe (Tyler), Vince Gaulin (Ginny), Joseph Guy, and Marilyn Guy as well as five great-grandchildren. He also loved his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his eight siblings, Simon Guy, Dorence Guy, Virginia Guy, Velma Hawkins, Cleo Renner, Roy Guy, Marie Hare, and John Guy.

Graveside service will be held on 10:00 am, Friday, July 24th, 2020 at Oconee Memorial Park, Seneca.  Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and concerns for the health of family and friends, we ask that all who attend the service wear face masks.
