John Roach Jr.

Salem– John Dee Roach, 81, husband of Ella Mae Bryant Roach, passed away Wednesday, February 16th, 2022 at Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital.

 

Born in Oconee County, John was the son of the late Dee Roach and Addie Swafford Roach.  John was a carpenter with Galloway Construction. John was very involved with the Picket Post Fire Department where he started serving in 1966, and served as lieutenant, assistant chief for twenty years and two years as the chief of the Picket Post Fire Department.

 

John is survived by his beloved wife, Ella Mae Bryant Roach of 51 years; son, John Christopher “Chris” Roach; daughter Amanda “Mandy” Roach  (Lee Adkins); sister, Essie Burrell; six grandchildren, Danielle Roach (Dre), Kyle Roach (Marie), Cody Chastain (Liz), Robin Hitt (Jamal), Hailie Adkins, and Trey Adkins, thirteen great grandchildren, Autumn, Samara, Amina, Ania, Diamond, Laim, Auburn, Daniel, Logan, Dayton, Noah, Saphira and Parker who is on the way; special friends, Larry Green and Haywood Washington.

 

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by sisters, Mabel Webb, Ruth Crowe, Helen Galloway, and Lillian Cape; grandchild, Laurs Adkins and three great grandchildren, RJ, Logan and Amira.

 

A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 pm, Saturday, February 26th, 2022, at Sandifer Funeral Home with burial to follow at Whitmire Cemetery with fireman honors. The family will receive friends 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm, Saturday, February 26th, 2022 prior to the service at Sandifer Funeral Home.
