Joe McAlister

Joe McAlister, 75, of Westminster, SC, joined his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, surrounded by his loved ones on March 22nd, 2024. He was a devoted husband of the late Marlene Peeples McAlister and the son of the late Garnett “Mac” and Ellen McAlister. Joe worked at Valenite for over 30 years where he met many people, he was blessed to call friends and spoke fondly of.

Joe was a humble and kind man with a heart of gold. He was a man of few words but when he spoke, all of us knew to listen. He was wise and honest. He always told you what you needed to hear even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. Joe was well loved and respected by his family.

Joe enjoyed the simple things in life. He liked hunting, just watching the deer from his back porch, taking care of his yard and spending time with his dogs. He liked watching a good Western on TV and he loved cake. Let me tell you, Joe loved a good cake!

His greatest joy in life though was seeing the smiles of his family. When his granddaughter was little, he bought a Go-Cart just so he could ride her around on it and drink Pepsi. He spent hours teaching Marley to play checkers. Its hard to beat her at checkers because he taught her so well. Joe was a wonderful Grandpa; he enjoyed fast cars and recently spoke about some that he owned in the past. He had interesting stores about some of those fast cars.

Joe will be truly and dearly missed by his family.

Joe is survived by his son, Danny Joe McAlister (Missy); daughter, Linda McAlister (Jody) whom he affectionately called his “Punkin” all her life; granddaughter, Marley Leann McAlister; sisters, Fannie Smith, Betty Barker, and Martha Pelfrey; and his beloved dogs whom he loved dearly, “Baby” and “Bubba”.

In addition to his wife and parents, Joe is preceded in death by his brothers, Frank McAlister, Charles McAlister, James McAlister; sister, Beaulah Chappell and Emily Bramlett.

A Graveside Service will be held at 4:30 pm, Sunday, March 24th, 2024, at Heritage Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends prior to the service 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm, Sunday, March 24th, 2024 at Sandifer Funeral Home.
