Jerry Carl Lee

Seneca, SC – It is with great sadness that the family of Jerry Carl Lee announces his unexpected passing after a brief battle with cancer. At the age 73, Jerry left this earth for his Heavenly home on September 28th, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.

 

Jerry will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Donna Lee, and his son, Mike Wilson. He will also be fondly remembered by his brother Sam Lee (Janie); his daughter-in-law, Jeanette Wilson; and his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Wilson Lee, and his son, Tony Wilson, along with his parents, Carl and Laura Lee.

 

Jerry also served in the National Guard. Sergeant Major (Retired) Jerry C. Lee joined the South Carolina Army National Guard on June 3, 1966 and retired on August 11, 2007, after more than 41 years of distinguished honorable service.

 

During his military career, Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Lee served in many demanding positions.  While serving as a citizen Soldier, he was also employed as a Federal Technician from April 15, 1968 until March 27, 1998 with the South Carolina Army National Guard.  His areas of specialty were Human Resources and Air Defense Artillery.  He received many awards, decorations, and accolades for his service and achievements.  He was also a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, the highest professional military education for enlisted Soldiers.

 

Sergeant Major (Retired) Jerry C. Lee was an invaluable leader in the South Carolina Army National Guard who received an honorary appointment to Command Sergeant Major upon his retirement.  His plethora of knowledge, skills, and expertise has left a lasting impact on the organization and the Soldiers, Airmen, and civilians with whom he served.

 

A strong community leader, Jerry had an extensive career in education and served 30 years on the Oconee County school board. He was named chairman in 2018 and served in this position until his passing. Jerry was very instrumental in the construction of the new Walhalla High School and the Hamilton Career and Technology Center. He was also a member of College Street Baptist for almost fifty years.

 

Jerry was an avid Ford Mustang and car show enthusiast. He enjoyed participating in car shows and won many awards for his vintage Mustangs.

 

A funeral service in memory of Jerry will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020, at 4:00 PM, at College Street Baptist Church. Graveside services will be private. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday, October 2, 2020, at Davenport Funeral Home. Mask are required to attend the services.
