JAY PRATER
Westminster – Jay Lee Prater, 45, passed away on Wednesday, January 17th, 2024.
Born August 21st, 1978 in Anderson, South Carolina, Jay was the son of Johnny L. Prater and the late Martha Duncan Prater. Jay was of the Baptist faith and attended Return Baptist Church. He was the Westminster Apple Festival Grand Marshall. Jay was a big rodeo and country music fan and even met many world champion cowboys and country music stars like Randy Bernard the PBR President, Ty Murray, JB Mauney, Chris Shivers, Tuff Hedeman, Don Gay, Jerome Davis, Charlie Daniels, George Strait, and Rhonda Vincent. He enjoyed eating out and sharing every meal with his dad. Jay was known for his contagious smile, loving spirit, and his cowboy hat and boots. Jay was described as the best friend anyone could ever have.
In addition to his father, Jay is survived by his brothers, Jeff Prater of Westminster, South Carolina, and Jerry Prater of Washington, Georgia.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 21st, 2024, at Return Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at Return Baptist Church. A Committal Service will be held at a later date. Per the family’s request, please wear your Western attire in honor of Jay.
